Without Gamble, Thornton & Cowan against a team 5 divisions higher, today was always going to be a tough task. After a bright start, the visitors went 2-0 up which stayed the same until a minute before the break. Goalkeeper Bootheway was kept busy but with a solid display from Masters playing centre-back and a goal-line clearance from Stone kept the score respectable at half-time.
Fatigue and fitness clearly played a significant part in the second half with Deacon having to play at the back with Willcocks whilst Kainth had his best game with a combative performance in midfield supported by Bell & Russell playing their first game of the season. A tireless effort from Prescod up front alone soon allowed Hirst a strike at goal but narrowly failed to hit the target.
Robinson was playing out of position at left back but linked well with Knight & Hulley to show glimpses of what they can achieve this year. A positive effort against clearly strong opposition but hoping they can learn lessons to put into practice when back in league action next week.
