Gallant Effort as Kestrels end runners up in final
By Jonathan Stone
Promising signs for next season
The Kestrels started brightly and Knight lobbed the keeper inside Two minutes after good play by Plant on the right, however Masters could do nothing to prevent Anstey equalising soon after. A quick One Two and Cowan couldn't prevent Anstey taking the lead, but the Kestrels pressed forward strongly looking to get to half-time on level terms. Hirst had a decent effort well saved, and Robinson narrowly missed from another corner.
Anstey soon scored their Third and in the heat the Kestrels found it difficult to get back in the game, however the hard working Bell found Chamberlain who riffled over. Chasing the game, gaps appeared which Anstey punished. Bootheway could do nothing to prevent further goals despite committed defending from Gamble and captain Willcocks. In typical Kestrels fashion they never gave up. Kainth won a tackle in midfield, and good work on the right by Stone created a chance for Prescod who failed to take advantage.
Anstey scored late goals which gave the scoreline a harsh reflection on the balance of play, but the boys can be really proud of a fantastic achievement to reach the final despite falling at the final hurdle. Onward & upwards for next season when we move to 11-a-side.
