Even by what we've come to expect from the lush turf of Birds Barn, the wet and windy conditions proved very difficult to contend with. The Kestrels defended heroically in the first half with Cowan and Knight excellent alongside the energetic Bootheway & disciplined Kainth in midfield, but against the strong wind, the tie was not beyond them going into the break 2-0 down.
The game turned mid-way through the second half when Stone cut inside to link up with Prescod whose lay off was thundered against the underside of the crossbar by Willcocks, then the visitors broke away to score against the run of play. Masters then hit the post before the Kestrels grabbed a deserved lifeline when Hirst fed Chamberlain who volleyed home to reduce the arrears.
With the Kestrels pushing for another goal, they always left themselves vulnerable to conceding a breakaway goal, and just before the final whistle, Braunstone scored from a corner to seal an away cup win.
