On a pleasant evening, well almost, Birds Barn hosted the division 8 cup match between the Kestrels and Blaby & Whetstone who had met 3 times already this season with a single goal separating the sides on all 3 previous encounters so a close match was expected and that's exactly how it proved to be.
The Kestrels started positively with the hard working Prescod up front creating opportunities for Robinson & Knight, and when the visitors threatened, Gamble, Willcocks & Cowan kept them at bay with solid and composed defending throughout.
Blaby came out stronger in the second half and Bootheway was forced into multiple saves to keep the scores level. The visitors soon became frustrated when their striker received a yellow card.
Hirst looked dangerous on the counter attack along with the long throw weapon from Masters, but just when the Kestrels thought they could snatch victory, Blaby scored what proved to be the decisive goal. The Kestrels continued to push yet sadly they couldn't force the game into a penalty shootout despite an impressive performance from Plant.
