Deprived of players shortly before kick off due to injury and illness left an under strength Kestrels to take on Wigston at a wet and windy Birds Barn. In a re-shaped team with Bell making his first start of the season, Knight looked assured at the back and Gamble had his best half of the season as the Kestrels fought against the wind and rain only to be 3-0 down at half time.
Wind assisted allowed the Kestrels to be a more dominant force in the second half with Hirst providing some good crosses with his deadly left foot which neither Robinson nor Russell could convert. Stone then combined well with the impressive Willcocks on the right yet Bootheway narrowly failed to connect on another cross into the box.
With tiredness setting in, Wigston's strength finally told with 3 late strikes despite some fine saves from keeper Masters.
All things considered, a fine spirited display from the Kestrels against very strong and organised opposition.
