Kibworth Chargers Win

Kibworth Chargers win their first match

With the decision at the end of last year to create two teams from the Kibworth Kickers under 8's. So the Kibworth Chargers under 9's were created. Alongside the Kibworth Kickers under 9's. To give more game time to all players. The decision was taken to create two teams as evenly and well balanced as possible.

Both teams played their first matches on the 3rd September. The Kickers played away against Asfordby with a draw. Search for their match report under the Kickers team under 9's

While the Chargers played their first match at home at the Birds Barn home ground. The opposition were Whitwick Juniors under 9's.

With a fresh slightly cloudy start to the morning and a 10.30 kick off the stakes were high. Could the chargers take home a first match win? The team went through a thorough warm up and early pre-match training session.

After a pretty even start with both teams trying to claim the first goal. Finally The Chargers with some impressive passing play made the break through with a fantastic powerhouse goal. After the elation of the first goal the Chargers seemed to dominate two thirds of the first half . Even though Whitwick battled hard to find the Chargers goal a wall of Steel was created as defence and goalie alike absorbed everything thrown at them. Eventually though Whitwick juniors determination finally found the back of the Chargers net after finding a gap in the Chargers defences. With the first half ending with one all on the half time score card. The Chargers play in the first half was impressive to say the least for their first under 9's match.

The Chargers made some half time player position changes and rotations which found a new right winger attacking the Whitwick juniors goal. With some impressive mid-field play excellent passing throughout the game from all the Chargers the opportunity fell twice in quick succession to the new right winger. When the opportunities came he didn't hesitate to take advantage of both chances. Finally Chargers fourth goal was snapped up by slamming the ball home after a Chargers defender moved purposefully forward from a defensive role during a particularly fast paced Chargers counter attack.

With a few more team changes by both sides, and the score dominated by Chargers impressive tally the game seemed to open up. With the Whitwick juniors now coming back and finding a few chinks in the Chargers defencsive play. With an excellent run through Chargers defence in the final third of the pitch a blinding ball flew in the back of the net. This one action seemed to give a second wind to the Whitwick juniors play. Although valiantly fought after a frantic goal mouth melee, the third goal was conceeded with a quick tap in after the ball rolled out to an unsuspecting Whitwick player.

With the Chargers digging deep and regaining more attacking and charging play. It was to be a last minute attack by the Whitwick Juniors which would see the most dramatic end to the match. Whitwick Juniors attempts to level the game were thwarted by some valiant goal keeping by the Chargers goalie and the final well timed touches from the eventual man of the match stealing the ball and clearing it from Whitwick Juniors just before the whistle blew.

If this match is anything to go by Kibworth Chargers should be proud of the excellence and true grit and determination they showed they could provide each other. With a seemingly unquenchable spirit to "never give up". We look forward to more of the same over the coming season if our nerves can take it.
