After a debatable off side decision saw the home team go in front, a very sluggish and sloppy first half saw the Kestrels get severely punished as Wigston totally dominated, first to the second ball and quicker all round giving them a thoroughly deserved 5-0 half time advantage. A change in formation and personnel admittedly done as a damage limitation exercise nearly gave a surprising outcome.
Plant playing in only his second game of the season fed a cross through for Stone to volley home to get Kestrels off and running, however Wigston soon restored their 5 goal lead despite some strong defending by Gamble and Cowan. Masters produced some fine saves to keep Kestrels in the game, then a counter attack allowed Prescod to feed Hirst who riffled home from the edge of the box to reduce the deficit.
Continued belief and endeavour from the industrious Knight & Russell in midfield then saw Chamberlain score twice in quick succession, the second from nice play from Bootheway.
The never say die attitude and leadership from captain Willcocks can be applauded throughout, but the key message from the coach is to start on the front foot as the Kestrels take on Wigston again next week.
